National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX)

The National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) is a world-class vehicle testing and proving ground located in Pithampur, Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the key centers under NAB and is designed to provide cutting-edge testing, validation, and research facilities for the automotive industry, enabling manufacturers to develop vehicles that meet both domestic and international standards.

NATRAX has following key features and facilities:

1. Asia’s Longest High-Speed Test Track

ICAT, as a key institution under NAB’s framework, plays a critical role in advancing India’s automotive technology landscape. It provides comprehensive vehicle and component testing services, including:

The 11.3 km long high-speed test track, which is among the longest in Asia is one of the most remarkable features of NATRAX. This track is designed to test vehicles at high speeds, with the capability to accommodate different category of vehicles that can reach speeds of over 250 km/h at curves. This facility is crucial for automakers, supercar manufacturers, and defense vehicle developers to test their vehicles’ top speed, stability, and aerodynamics in a controlled environment.

2. Specialized Test Tracks for Comprehensive Vehicle Evaluation

NATRAX is not just about high-speed track—it also houses a variety of specialized test tracks, each of which serving a unique purpose:

Handling Track: Designed to test a vehicle’s maneuverability and stability under high-speed cornering conditions.

Gradient Track: Used to evaluate a vehicle’s performance in climbing inclines of different angles.

Braking Test Zone: Allows manufacturers to assess braking efficiency, stopping distances, and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) performance.

Comfort Evaluation Track:Measures the ride quality and comfort level of vehicles under different road conditions.

Wet Skid Pad: A dedicated surface to test a vehicle’s traction and stability in wet conditions.

These tracks help vehicle manufacturers in development of safer and more reliable vehicles for various terrains and weather conditions.

3. Support for Research & Development (R & D)

In addition to certification and compliance testing, NATRAX is a hub for automotive research and development. It helps manufacturers in:

Testing prototypes and new vehicle designs before commercial production.

Evaluating electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving technology, and fuel efficiency innovations.

Enhancing aerodynamics and safety features through real-world simulations.

By providing access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, NATRAX plays a significant role in India’s transition toward advanced mobility solutions.
