Component & Material Lab

Component & Material Lab

The Component & Material Labs at GARC (Global Automotive Research Centre) and ICAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology) are advanced testing facilities dedicated to evaluating automotive components, raw materials, and vehicle structures. These labs ensure that materials and components used in vehicles meet performance, durability, safety, and regulatory standards before they are approved for production.

Component & Material Lab – ICAT

The ICAT Component & Material Lab is designed to support OEMs, suppliers, and researchers in testing metals, polymers, composites, and coatings for strength, durability, and environmental resistance.

Capabilities:

Mechanical Testing

  • Tensile, compression, and impact testing for evaluating material strength.
  • Fatigue and fracture toughness analysis for structural integrity assessment.

Environmental & Thermal Testing

  • High/low-temperature tests to assess material behavior under extreme conditions.
  • UV aging, salt spray, and humidity tests to evaluate corrosion and weather resistance.

Electrical & Conductivity Testing

  • Measures electrical properties of conductive materials and insulators.
  • Assesses wiring harnesses, circuit boards, and EMI shielding materials.

Chemical & Spectroscopic Analysis

  • Identifies material composition, purity, and potential contaminants.
  • Uses FTIR, XRF, and ICP-MS for precise chemical analysis.

Coatings & Surface Treatment Analysis

  • Tests paint adhesion, scratch resistance, and wear performance.
  • Ensures compliance with automotive coating durability standards.

Component & Material Lab – GARC
