These labs play a crucial role in ensuring that EVs meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards while promoting innovation in battery technology, electric powertrains, and charging systems.

EV Lab – GARC

The EV Lab at GARC supports comprehensive testing and validation of electric vehicles and components, ensuring they meet Indian and international regulations.

Capabilities

Battery Pack & Module Testing

  • Evaluates battery pack durability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Conducts thermal shock, vibration, and impact tests.

Electric Motor & Drivetrain Testing

  • Measures motor efficiency, performance, and power output.
  • Tests motor controller compatibility and energy optimization.

Vehicle Integration & Functional Testing

  • Ensures seamless integration of battery, motor, and BMS (Battery Management System).
  • Simulates real-world driving conditions for performance validation.

BMS (Battery Management System) Testing

  • Tests battery balancing, state-of-charge estimation, and fault detection.
  • Ensures safe and efficient battery operation.

EV Lab – ICAT

The EV Lab at ICAT is equipped with cutting-edge testing infrastructure to support OEMs, battery manufacturers, and EV startups in research, certification, and compliance with global standards.

Battery Testing & Certification

  • Tests lithium-ion, solid-state, and other advanced battery chemistries.
  • Evaluates thermal performance, energy density, and cycle life.
  • Ensures compliance with AIS-156, AIS-038, UN38.3, and IEC 62133.

Electric Powertrain Testing

  • Assesses electric motors, inverters, controllers, and regenerative braking systems.
  • Measures efficiency, torque, thermal performance, and durability.

EV Charger & Charging System Testing

  • Evaluates AC/DC chargers, charging stations, and vehicle charging compatibility.
  • Tests CCS, CHAdeMO, Type-2, and Bharat DC charging protocols.

Thermal Runaway & Safety Testing

  • Conducts battery abuse tests like overcharging, short-circuit, and thermal runaway resistance.
