The state-of-the-art facilities of Passive Safety & Crash Test Labs are situated at Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) and International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) are designed to evaluate vehicle crashworthiness, occupant protection, and pedestrian safety. These labs ensure compliance with national (AIS, CMVR) and international (NCAP) safety standards, enhancing automotive safety in India.

Passive Safety & Crash Test Lab – GARC

The state of the art GARC’s crash testing facility is one of the most technologically advanced in India and center of excellence, supporting both homologation and R&D.

Capabilities:

Full-Vehicle Crash Testing

  • Conducts 40%, 100% frontal crash, side-impact, and rear-impact tests.
  • Supports testing as per Global NCAP, AIS-098.

Pedestrian Safety & Impact Testing

  • Evaluates the impact of vehicles on pedestrians using headform and legform impactors
  • Ensures compliance with AIS-100, UNECE GTR-9, and Euro NCAP standards

Sled Testing for Seatbelts & Airbags

  • Deceleration sled system to simulate crash conditions for seatbelt and airbag validation
  • Tests whiplash protection and side-impact safety

Child Restraint System (CRS) Testing

  • Evaluates baby seats and booster seats under crash conditions

Advanced Sensor & Data Logging System

  • Equipped with DTS crash data recorders, high-speed cameras, and force sensors
Passive Safety & Crash Test Lab – ICAT

ICAT’s crash testing facility is equipped with advanced test rigs and high-speed data acquisition systems to evaluate vehicle safety performance under real-world crash scenarios.

Capabilities:

Full-Vehicle Crash Testing

  • Frontal, Side, Rear Impact Tests as per AIS-098, UN Regulations, and NCAP protocols

Pedestrian Safety Testing

  • Evaluates the impact of a vehicle on pedestrian head, leg, and body
  • Headform, legform, and upper body impact testing to comply with GTR-9 and AIS-100

Sled Testing Facility

  • Simulates crash forces on vehicle seats, seatbelts, airbags, and child restraint systems (CRS)
  • Helps analyze occupant kinematics and restraint system performance

Airbag Deployment & Effectiveness Testing

  • Tests airbag inflation timing, effectiveness, and coverage area in crash scenarios
